Benzyl Alcohol is an aromatic chemical which possesses molecular formula C7H8O with molar mass of 108.14 g/mol and density of 1.044 g/cm3. It can be synthesized by hydrolysis of benzyl chloride using NaOH. This chemical is most commonly used as solvent for inks, paints, waxes, epoxy resins, and shellacs. It is known to have bacteriostatic properties and is used for treatment of head lice. In nanotechnology, Benzyl Alcohol finds application as dielectric solvent and also as local anesthetic & antimicrobial agent. It is known to appear as colorless liquid with boiling point of 205.3 degrees Celsius.
