About Chloroform
Chloroform is an organic compound which is widely utilized in preparation of various reagents that are used in laboratories & hospitals. It is considered to have superior sedative, anesthetic, & anxiolytic properties. This compound has molecular formula CHCl3 with molar mass of 119.37 g/mol. It is known to be industrially produced by heating mixture of methane & chlorine at 400-500 degrees Celsius under controlled conditions. In presence of phase transfer catalyst, Chloroform reacts with aqueous sodium hydroxide. It appears as colorless liquid with ethereal odor and boiling point of 61.15 g/mol.
