Methylene Dichloride is most commonly utilized as solvent for various chemical preparations, a degreaser, and a paint stripper. It is known to have chemical formula CH2Cl2 with molar mass of 84.93 g/mol. This chemical compound appears as colorless liquid with chloroform-like odor. It is a geminal organic compound which does not show solubility in water and is miscible with various organic solvents. Methylene Dichloride can be industrially prepared by treatment of chloromethane with chlorine gas at temperature of 400 to 500 degrees Celsius. It also finds application in food industry for decaffeinating coffee & tea.
